Welcome to the 8th Wonder Films site for The Beckoning Road!
It has been said that only by fully exploring the world, it’s cultures, people and experiences can one truly begin to understand who one is and what it is we’re here for. Our film will seek to demonstrate these beliefs by exploring the lives, communities and philosophies of the long-haul third world traveler. Leaving behind their ordered worlds to search out adventure and enlightenment on the road, our subjects scour the earth in search of new lands, new cultures, new experiences and human connections. But what they’ll most often find is graciousness, self-reliance, adaptability, humility, and compassion. These people are us.
From their last days of work and the hugs of family and friends, to the jungles of Central America, the deserts of Africa, the remote Island villages of Southeast Asia and beyond, their lives could easily be our lives. Some will run out of money and stay to work or struggle to live, while others will keep moving and stop only for love or the love of a new community. For some the return home will be sour, to others a relief and still others will find the road itself is their home. Regardless, each will know more about themselves from a few months or years on the road than most of us do in a lifetime.
Over the next six months we will be shooting an episodic short on the travels of Amy and Marisol as they make their way from southern Brazil to Guatemala. Check out the teaser and photo journal and feel free to leave comments or suggestions.
On the stories page we ask that you submit any stories or photos you’d like to share with us about your travels.
There is so much more to come so check back often for new updates and features. We look forward to you joining us on this amazing journey.
